B2B buyers ask ChatGPT which software to evaluate. OpenAI documents only part of how a site gets into those answers. That part is on this sheet, and the work on top of it is further down.
Updated
From OpenAI's pages, read
OAI-SearchBot
OpenAI uses it to surface websites in ChatGPT's search features. Opt out and your pages won't appear in search answers, though they can still show as navigational links.
For you: Check this one first. If it's blocked, ChatGPT's search answers can't cite you.
OpenAI's published IP addresses
To be eligible, OpenAI says your host or CDN must also allow traffic from its searchbot IPs.
For you: A firewall rule can shut ChatGPT out even when robots.txt lets it in.
GPTBot
Crawls for training foundation models. OpenAI says each of its settings is independent.
For you: You can refuse training and still allow search.
ChatGPT-User
Fetches a page when a person's request calls for it. OpenAI says it doesn't crawl automatically and doesn't decide what appears in search, and that robots.txt may not apply.
For you: Seeing it in your logs tells you nothing about whether you're eligible for search.
Multiple factors, unnamed
ChatGPT ranks results using multiple factors meant to find relevant, reliable information. OpenAI adds that placement is not guaranteed.
For you: The weights aren't public, so any list of ChatGPT ranking factors is someone's inference.
Your own analytics
OpenAI's current pages give no tracking method. Links out of ChatGPT commonly carry utm_source=chatgpt.com.
For you: Only clicks show up. A buyer who reads the answer and never clicks leaves no trace, so we also run the questions directly.
Seen in practice, not documented by OpenAI
Based on the pages linked in the sheet above, read .
All five engines run on one retainer, so this work is never sold alone. The plan you pick sets how many questions we track and how much ships each term.
We write the questions your buyers ask, with you: 100 or 150 depending on the plan, mostly unbranded. You approve them before anything runs.
We check OAI-SearchBot in your robots.txt and at your host or CDN, because either one can block it. Fixes go into your plan's technical cycles.
Two weeks of answers across all five engines. For ChatGPT, we record who gets named, how it describes you, and whether the answer searched the web or came from the model alone. On day 14 you get a written estimate of what the scope can move by day 90, as ranges per cluster and engine.
Comparison and alternatives pages, revamps of pages you already have, corrected review profiles, placements on the pages ChatGPT cites, and community work. Each month end is measured against the forecast.
Nobody controls what the engines say. You get a measured baseline, a written forecast and a monthly check that shows a flat month as flat.
We don't take your direct competitor, so we are never chasing the same citations for two of you.
We interview your product lead at the start, then for 30 minutes a month, and you approve every brief.
Each monthly check reads the same questions again and sets the result against the forecast. A flat month shows as flat. This is the shape of it, filled in for a made-up company.
Answers naming each, out of 100 questions.
On track
Range set on day 14 for this cluster: 8 to 15 answers. This month: 12.
Right: Category, integrations, who the product suits.
Wrong: Still quotes last year's pricing.
The error traces to a third-party roundup. Correcting it is in next month's work.

It is the work of getting your product named, and described correctly, when buyers ask ChatGPT about your category. It covers access for OAI-SearchBot, the pages ChatGPT cites, and what those pages say about you.
Send your website, your category in a sentence and up to five competitors. If we think the free audit will tell you something, it arrives 48 business hours after we confirm.
